what's this sem. like?
really yeshivish or not?>
first of all a little background- the head of Neve Yerushalayim, started this seminary as his "ideal seminary". it is named after his daughter who passed away. they are looking for a very specific type of girl (though nobody has really said what type of girl it is that that they want), and the lady who interviews pays really careful attention to everything - the interview is a really really big thing for them, and so is the essay - yes, they really do read it and they read it well.
a lot of girls who apply to BJJ also apply here; the same goes for bnos chava. it is supposedly on an academic par (in terms of level, not necessarily content or ground covered) with BJJ. almost all the classes are given in Hebrew, by real israeli teachers.
it is a much smaller school than most BYs, only about 40 or 50 girls. most of them are out-of-towners; hardly any girls are from NY. it is definitely NOT jappy.
apparantly they "push" their hashkafa less- like they dont tell you that you absolutely must marry a kollel guy. they are also supposed to be more open than most BYs to asking questions. there is supposed to be a lot of textual learning, and they dont necessarily go over and over the same hashkafa points to "drill them in your head".
because it's on the neve campus, there are a few advantages. you get to meet all kinds of different people, from all different types of backgrounds. they have 3 meals a day, and the dorms (i think) are pretty much open the whole academic year, including any off shabbos, sukkos, pesach, etc. it's in har nof, which is a great location in and of itself, besides for the fact that there are a lot of other seminaries in har nof.
i heard its a mix of hadar and bjj so that would be ultra yeshivish - a few girls from my school went there last yr.
exactly thats what i thot... but the way AM says it i mite even consider applying but the 'ultra yeshivish part' turns me off
Ultra yeshivish I am not sure...but as you know its not only about the academic part of seminary..because you live w/ these girls if you see for yourself that theses"type" of girls arent you speed..then don't consider the seminary becasue at the end of the day it is better to go to a seminary that you dont love but the girls you do becasue thats what you go "home to" after every class
