Another self explainatory school...BJJ...it is a very frum school...and EXTREMELY academic...baiscally all the classes are in hebrew a lot of work and if you have to be into working a lot. great school w/ a great name..but its not for everoyne you have to be "That type" of girl ..we all know what that means so no need to further explain the school..its one of thoes that "everyone just knows about"
yeh, e/o except for me. so ive heard that its more openminded than pple think. im considering applying there cuz i really need a more bais yaakov style michlala... but is it really what the sterotype sounds like?
Well it is maybe more of an open minded school..but yet at the same time..the girls that go there are not necssiraly the case..michlala i think is becoming def more and more bais yaakov. I mean bjj does also have a varity and a big school...i mean in bjj they will be more of that"stero typed" then not..but if academic is your main thing then bjj is def. the academic place for you.
so should i be scared to apply... i mite not even get in, but i know alot of girls who are there now adn girls who are applying this year and they're all pretty 'normal'- frum-wise. so wadday think? and btw--- who are you???????????
No don't be scared to apply..apply and see what happens..a lot of ppls change their mind through out the whole process of applying...and interviews and getting in..etc..
but im scared to go if the whole sem. is gonna be a bunch of frummies. and what kinda girls are they looking for... u know for when they start interviewing and stuff>\?
right so that is a major factor..but then again the school is large i said and many varaitys but i would say the vast is very frum...(fine line btwn being very frum and yeshivish) i would say interviews are like in dec time..depending on where you are..because i know in some out of town places they dont interview but give you a MURDEROUS test(takes like 6 hrs) but in others they interview
These terms are not black and white...everyone will define it how they think..they are many different types of yeshivish and many different types of frum..yeshivish ppl are frum..but frum ppl are just yeshivish in a different spectrum.. i am sorry that this may seem confusing but their is no one answer..just think of the girls you know or know of that went to either one of thoes seminarys...
huh? im confused... either one of which sems. BJJ and??? the girls who have been going recently just seem to be more normal or maybe its just cuz i know them....
you comparing bjj and hadar so i was just claryfing that it is not just black and white...again the girls u know im sure im a minority...there are girls that are normal just extremly frum
bjj is confusing and ill explain why. a lot of girls who apply to hadar also apply to bjj. at the same time many girls who apply to mchllala also apply to bjj. people mistakingly think that you have to be ultrafrum to go- this is cuz they are from flatbushy by schools. from those schools only the top top girls are accepted- but if you are coming from a less by school and are very intilectual, you are in luck. reb davis is very very openminded. applying is hard because not only is the interview intense, there is a bechina thingy that goes along with it so you gotta be smart. but its not as yeshivish as everyone thinks. i had a friend that i made in israel who told me she goes to bjj and i was shocked. so its all about where you go to hs! about the classes being only in hebrew- not true! its devided into three classe4s- alef bais and gimmel- depending on ur smartness- gimel and bais are english speaking. bjj is hard but you learn a lot. and the best thing is- you have a uniform! how cool? you dont have to wake up and decide wat to wear- its decided for you! and plus the dorms are stunning with huge rooms and an elevator!
everyone should just know that the amount and difficulty of the work in bjj is for the most part exagerated. not that it is easy at all, but it is managable and doable. keep in mind that all you have to do is pass, which obviously makes things a whole lot easier to handle. you will definitely worked a alot harder there than in highschool, but the pressure for high marks is pretty non existent for most people. there are always some girls that feel that they must get very high marks on all reports and tests, so they made the choice to work much harder and longer hours than necessary. There is still plenty of time to do fun stuff, relax, visit people, etc. the truth about the teachers is this: they are a big mix. some are not so great, some are ok, and some are AMAZING!!! the main teachers that you have most of the time are the phenomenal ones, and girls would do everything in their power not to miss their classes even once. bjj has a name of being cold. the truth is that the teachers are extremely warm, but often you have to be the one to initiate a relationship. they genuinely care about everyone and lose sleep over their students! after many classes there were lines of girls waiting to speak to the teacher about what was said in class. quite a sight! the dorms were recently fixed up and are now really nice. the building is very large and spacious, and there was plenty of room for storage and privacy. its in an amazing location, right on sorotzkin, which is a great neighborhood, and very easy walking distance to everything, including geulah, old city , and all the neighborhoods. lots of girls from other seminaries would sleep in bjj for shabbos b/c of its central location. also, the classes are in the dorm, so its very easy in the morning!! there are 3 meals a day, decent food, american style. there is a dress code of light blue button down shirt, navy pleated skirt, any sweater. very easy in the morning, no deciding what to wear today! they are pretty lenient about the skirts most of the time. some girls would wear regular black and usually no one said anything to them. curfew is at 10 which is annoying, especially b/c its a little earlier than some of the other seminaries. the workload was pretty heavy, but not impossible and somehow everyone manages. a laid back but serious attitude helps. meaning, getting everything done, but being chilled out and relaxed instead of tense and nervous. they give a lot of hashkafah talks all the time. the hashkafah is very beis yakov and chareidi. very very into learning, and anti-zionist. they prepare you very well for shidduchim, engagement, marriage , children, shalom bayis, and all kinds of practical , everyday issues. they encourage teaching for after you come home from seminary. the girls are the cream of the crop. there was 151 of us, so there were all types. id say about 15% were more jappy , and everyone else wasnt. everyone there is at least very bright, and many were brilliant. a lot of girls had to adjust to not being the smartest girl in their class anymore. not such a bad thing in my opinion!! the majority of the girls were very frum, some were obviously more than others. there is a general feeling of a desire to grow and do the right thing. most girls were not nerds at all, very talented and cute personalities. clothing on shabbos wasnt a big deal, a lot of ppl wore the same thing every week and no one blinked twice. the dorm is always opened, shabbos and yom tov, so that eliminated a lot of the stress of finding sleeping accomodations every week.
dementor- i didnt no you went to bjj!! thats so cool! bjj was my second home- we must have seen eachother all the time! hows reb d doin? i no u keep up!
uh not to make it obvious... but even i noticed.... "151 of US!!" its a little of a give away that u went to bjj!-- but i loved what u wrote... it really helped me! can u tell me what the interview was like!!??? thanx!
she wishes to remain anonymuos but she says "no bjj is not so nerdy there are some rlly nerdy kids and there are ALOT of normal cute kids." she says thats where the nerdy very normal kids go.
k so i know someonoe who went to bjj very well plus i went to visit a couple of times so i wana say a few things: first of all you know the bjj stereotype-very frum, smart, workaholics-so not true!! ya a lot of the girls are very frum and yeshivish and wtvr but there are tons of really really cute with it girls! There are a lot of girls there that you would look at and not necessarily think are bjj type-but they went there! So the stereotype is not so correct. Second of all abt the work? The person that i know that went there was pretty studious in high school, but she totally didnt work hard in seminary! She handed in all the reports on time and wtvr but she didnt necessarily always completely do the written homework or study that well for tests and wtvr...i mean she still passed but def. didnt do as well as she did in hs-and its so not a big deal! A lot of girls in bjj have this same philosophy and no one makes a big deal abt it AT ALL..and seminary marks dont really count for much anyway! And third of all? The dorms are actually pretty nice!
